Some basements do better with paperless drywall instead, which skips the paper facing entirely in favor of a fiberglass mat, giving mold even less to grow on in spaces that stay consistently damp, like below a bathroom or near a sump pump.
Neither option makes a basement completely waterproof, that's a job for proper drainage and a sump system, not drywall, but starting with the right board means a lot fewer problems down the road if humidity creeps up during a wet Tennessee spring.
If the basement is turning into a home theater, workout room, or a place for the kids to be loud without bothering the rest of the house, sound control usually matters as much as moisture control. Soundproof drywall, sometimes called acoustic drywall, is built with a dense polymer layer sandwiched between two panels of standard board, and it's specifically designed to cut down on sound traveling between floors.
